HDB & URA Directors To Resident’s Letter: “Punggol residents can look forward to more facilities”

Previously, Mr Lee sent in a letter talking about how Punggol really needs basic amenities and how painstakingly barren it is right now. Many residents agree. I agree too, as (years ago) when I first went to have a look at my BTO, I was sad and shocked to find that it looks like a part of an undeveloped village. A barren land on the north eastern side of Singapore. As if I had went back in time to the fishing village.

More than shell shocked, I was kinda disappointed.

Anyway, in a response to Mr Lee, as from Straits Times, Directors from HDB and URA had told and assured that there will be more facilities for Punggol residents.

It is mentioned that the plans for Punggol is to transform the Punggol Town Centre into a hub.

A Waterway Point will be built and it is going to be a major shopping mall and will be finished by end of next year. By end of next year I suppose it means end of 2015! (Just in time when I move in! =D)

Next will be the Punggol Town Square that is next to Waterway Point literally. It is a place for residents to meet up and gather.  Sounds like a community centre to me..

Included in the plan is: a community club within the town square, a regional library and hawker centre.

Also, a new F & B development at Punggol Point as well as the recently finished Punggol Settlement, which already have some retail operations.

Alongside Oasis LRT station, there will be a commercial centre and primary care facility. This is along Punggol Drive. Estimated that it will be up in the coming years.

2 main sports amenities: SAFRA Punggol and a Regional Sports Centre. This caters to a range of competitive sports and events. It is said to be integrated with the Waterway. I am guessing water sports will be a big thing here!

So that is what we have for now…

Sounds exciting! What do you think?

Comment below! Hopefully authorities will see the comments and implement more amenities!  =D

Over the next few years, Punggol Town Centre will be transformed into a vibrant hub. A major retail mall, Waterway Point, will be completed by the end of next year. This will be followed by the Punggol Town Square, a community gathering space located next to Waterway Point. There are also plans for other facilities within the town centre, including a community club, regional library and hawker centre.

A new food and beverage development at Punggol Point, The Punggol Settlement, has recently been completed and some stalls have commenced operations.

A commercial centre and a primary care facility along Punggol Drive, near Oasis LRT station, will also be up and running within the next few years.

As for sports and recreational facilities, residents can look forward to the Safra Punggol clubhouse, targeted for completion by 2016. A new Regional Sports Centre, catering to a wide range of competitive sports and events, will also be integrated with Punggol’s waterways and adjoin the Safra Punggol clubhouse.

We will continue to provide well-placed and comprehensive amenities to better serve the needs of residents.
